Professor David Leon
BA (Hons) PhD
Project Leader, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
David Leon is Professor of Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He has led the project from its inception drawing on his experience of over 25 years of undertaking research into Russian mortality. He is responsible for overseeing the conduct of the whole study and making sure that the content and results of each research question are well integrated, so as to answer the key scientific question : “Why is Russian cardiovascular mortality so high and what can be done about it ?”. The project only works because of the excellent team of fellow-scientists and support staff that he works with. In addition to having a strategic overview of the project’s direction he sees his role as promoting effective collaboration and integration across study sites and team members.
